The Ketogenic Diet is extremely popular, but how helpful is it for people with type 2 diabetes? Does the high-fat low-carb diet have any health benefits for people managing their blood sugar, or is it more harmful than helpful? We spoke to Dr. Caroline Messer, an endocrinologist and clinical assistant professor at Mount Sinai, to learn more about which foods are acceptable for a diabetes diet.

  1. Doctors receive very little nutrition training in med school. They are taught to concentrate more on treatment with medication. Most doctors are behind at least 10 years on their medical journal reading. They have busy personal lives like all of us.

  2. Fad diet?? All you have to do is think about what people were eating 300 years ago… It’s amazing how Big Pharma will put out videos like this. I’ve used the ketogenic diet to get 17 people off of type two diabetes medications within 4 to 7 days. It’s super easy. You can also cure cancer with it.   6. Here's a thought: Take 200 of her Type 2 patients and put them in a study. Keep 100 of them on the diet Messer recommends. Put the other 100 on a Keto diet with no more than 20 total carbs per day. At the end of the year see how many in each group has reversed their Type 2 diabetes. The truth is dozens of patients in the Keto group will have lost a ton of weight and no longer have Type 2 diabetes nor need her services. There's your proof. I know from my own personal experience.

    Update December 2020 after being on Keto for one year: I recently got my labs. My A1C is 4.9. A year ago it was 5.9. There's your proof.

  8. You need to learn the difference between ketosis and ketoacidosis. They are not the same thing at all. Ketoacidosis is a complication of primarily type 1 diabetes and it can kill. Ketosis is a natural state that everyone enters from time to time and is the body using fat stores.

  9. She's delusional, she just called The Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting as a fad diet, WTF? She just said she wouldn't mind if a diabetic would go to McDonald's, She just said that a Diabetic Type 1 shouldn't go on Keto which is fucking ludicrous. If you are a type 1 diabetic, you receive insulin shots because your pancreas doesn't produce insulin, in Ketoacidosis, your blood sugar goes up to 300, on Keto it goes to 60 or 80 or something low, Insulin pushes the blood sugar down, so why wouldn't you want to go on a diet that lowers your blood sugar, which is Keto, the only way you can get Ketoacidosis for a diabetic type 1 is if they don't take in their insulin shots, plus if they go on Keto, they're blood sugars go down so their need for insulin is less, thus less insulin shots every day, also she says she is afraid of people getting low blood sugars while Intermittent Fasting? WTF? The reason your blood sugars go down is because you spiked them, and insulin pushed it down, when you go on Keto and IF, your blood sugars normalize and are stable, this woman is delusional

  10. Thank you for voicing concerns about the keto diet and the super restrictive diets. I have known a couple of people who were hospitalized for metabolic syndrome after being on the keto diet. Part of the reason I created my channel was to let people know that there are healthier ways to achieve a low calorie diet than by being on a super restrictive diet!
