Best Low-Carb Fruits (and Which to Avoid)

When people switch to a ketogenic diet, fruit can be an area of confusion. Fruit has been marketed as healthy for many years and generally has a positive stigma behind it.

Since fruits are packed with natural sugars (fructose and glucose), we have to carefully watch the amount of low carb fruit we eat each day. The best strategy to minimize fruit sugar intake is to stick with berries (notably raspberries and blackberries), avocados, olives, and tomatoes as our fruits of choice on the ketogenic diet. It is also a good idea to avoid any medium and large-sized fruits as they tend to have too many sugars for ketosis.

  1. I never see fresh PINEAPPLE mentioned on a KETO fruit list…as good or bad?!
    Pineapples keep my inflammation DOWN when I use it as a dessert with a little heavy CREAM on top about 1X per week. โค
    I am 30 lbs overweight, but no signs, or pre-sign of diabetes in my lifetime, etc. I'm a senior, who eats low carb and higher saturated FAT.
    Thanks for any info!

  2. Berries are fine, but Keto is so limited re fruits and veggies. How can one sustain this when there is so little variety? No squash, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots. I was hoping this diet would help with inflammation as well, but I see red meats and night shade veggies being recommended and these are highly inflammatory as are tomatoes. Have made my own keto bread, and this is nothing like sprouted grain bread. Have made almond flour and coconut flour bread and the taste is drab. Not sure if I can hang in there for long.

  3. My concern about watermelon and other melons, is the fructose. Berries are mostly glucose as well as grapefruit and lemons and lime. Fructose is much worse than glucose. Melon is highly not recommended by me on keto.

  4. I always thought kiwi was keto friendly๐Ÿ˜‘ i eat one kiwi everyday coz most keto friendly fruits are expensive.i can only afford kiwi and watermelon๐Ÿ˜ญ.ive been on keto for almost 5 mons and lost a total of 18kg.

  5. What about Pomegranate juice? I would like to start drinking one cup daily and it's not concentrated its straight up Pomegranate juice no additive no additional sugar. I would like to drink it because of the health benefits I know it high in natural sugar and carbs. But my daily sugar and carb intake is super low from what I eat daily my only carbs and sugar come from my vegetables.
